Packin' on the Pounds

We took Brecken for a weight check today and she weighed a whopping 6 lbs. 9 oz. Her birth weight was 6.10, so we are on the right track. Dr. was very pleased with that and so we will continue doing what we are doing at least until her Augusta appt.
And, glad to say Avie's surgery went well and she was coming home from Atlanta today. Check out Audrey's blog to find out more info.

Brecken's First Dr. Visit

Thursday was Brecken's first dr. appt. She weighed 6 lbs 3 oz. Since we have been home she has been gaining an ounce a day. We are hoping that this just continues. We go back Thursday for a weight check. The dr. wants her to at least be 6 lbs 8 oz, but her birth weight would be ideal. She is eating pretty good right now. I am still supplementing though until we make sure she is gaining weight well. Makes for a long night. After the appt., we had to go to the hospital to have more blood work done. Terri went with me and Brecken and the nurses were going to have to draw blood from her head b/c her veins everywhere else were so small. I had to leave. Brave Aunt Terri stayed with her. I can handle her screaming, but not watching them put a needle in her tiny little head. Very traumatizing...for me! Thanks Aunt Terri for being so brave!
She is sleeping ok, too. Some nights are better than others, but she is a newborn, is it supposed to be any different? Didn't think so.
Kayden is loving her baby sister and really a big help to me around the house. All of our family members have gone home now, but we really enjoyed everyone that came and helped.
Here is more of what we found out at the dr...
While in the hospital they measured her creatnine levels (sp?). They compared them to mine and they should be the same. Mine were .5, and Breckens were 1.5, so that is where they are concerned. This level measures how well the kidneys are functioning. Right now, she is peeing, pooping, eating so they are working, but they just need to figure out why the level is so elevated. He told us some things to watch out for, that would signal something is wrong. None of those things are happening and he said she looked really good. We go to a specialist on Nov. 24th (they are trying to drive me crazy with that date so far away...). Our pediatrician told us they deal with these type of problems all the time and they will do a lot of tests. I plan on calling up there to find out more about our appt.
So, all that to say...we don't know why some of the blood work is abnormal, and we may never know, but they are going to rule some things out. Thank you for all your prayers and comments over the past few months. We are so excited about our sweet girl, and we just pray that God will heal any abnormalities she may have. There is only a few pictures, but Iwill try to update with more in a few days. Thanks for checking in with us.

Little Update, Lots of Pictures

This is Terri again. These are all in a random order but you get the point. A quick update - Brecken weighed in at 6 lbs 1 oz today - yippee! She is gaining about an ounce a day and that is very good. The appointment with the specialist has been scheduled for November 24th (monday before thanksgiving) in Augusta. Other than that, everything is going well! Hope you enjoy the pics.

The bow MIGHT be a little big right now ... no?! Okay then!

Pictures of the Sweetheart

This is Terri posting. I got some pics off of Melissa and my camera and thought you might enjoy seeing this beautiful little baby! None of the pictures show how really small she is - it's like holding one of Kayden's baby dolls but much prettier and much more fun :) I caught this first picture today while I was holding her. I think she likes me. The feeling is mutual. Well since I have gotten about 2.5 hours of sleep in the past 2 days, I'm gonna leave you with the pictures. Enjoy!

We are Home!

Brecken and I were able to come home today. It has been a long day, and I am exhausted and of course can't pull up the pictures. Figures...
I will get some up tomorrow, I promise. But for now, I just wanted to give you a quick update on all that has been going on.
First, thank you for all your prayers and thoughts over the past week. We are very blessed to have our wonderful daughter in our arms. She lost quite a bit of weight so they kept us another day. We are supplementing to get her back to where she needs to be. It might take a while, but that is our first priority.
Here is an overview of what we know about Brecken's kidneys. Most importantly, they are functioning! She is peeing and pooping very well. There is no blockage to her kidneys either. While there are a few cysts on one of them, this doesn't automatically mean something is wrong with them. The texture is still a question of concern. Our pediatrician has done tons of tests and able to rule out some "things" it could be. That is what we are praying for. We will get more results back next week and we are also being referred to a pediatric urologist. Hopefully, in two weeks we will be seeing him. He will be able to take a closer look at her kidneys, and rule out some other possibilities. Yes, it is possible that she will just have those cysts, and life will go on like normal. There is a possibility that they could cause problems, too. So, we are going to continue to pray for the first. I am not sure of the diseases/syndromes they have ruled out. They are too long for me to remember. Right now, we are just focusing on the fact that her kidneys are working and she is on the more normal range of question than the other (if that makes sense).
I promise to post pictures tomorrow. I am sorry, I am just having technical difficulties and need to take some pain meds!
Ok, so thanks again for checking on us. Our little, and I do mean little, girl is precious and I can't wait for you to see her. Big sister Kayde is really excited too. That first day threw her for a loop. She can't get enough.
Also, a big shout out to cousin Kinsey, who was born this morning! Congrats Ryan and Kristin!

The home stretch...

ONLY ONE MORE WEEK! Today was my last dr. appt (hooray) and my pre-op at the hospital. They just did my blood work and I met with the anesthesiologist.
It has hit me in the past few days what is about to happen. I am very excited and nervous. Not about the delivery, but more about afterwards. Once Brecken is here, we can rule out any problems with her kidneys (which is really what I beleive will happen). But, we can't do it until she is here.
Emotions are all over the place and all I think about is seeing her. I can't wait to see who she will look like. My prediction is John!
So, keep us in your prayers over the next week and on the 14th. There will be an update on the 14th, so just check back.
I have to check in at midnight then hang out until lunch time. John's family is traveling on the 13th, so keep them in your prayers too.

Larger than Life

This will be the last picture I probably take before Brecken...so, here ya go.
