You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...

Kayden and I have been outside a lot for some much needed playtime. We have been having a blast in the new pool. Kayden is such a blessing in my life and I cherish her so much. We have a lot of fun together and she is truly my sunshine every day.

Janey Janey Bo-Baney

It's still me (Terri). Melissa wanted me to let everyone know a little more about carrying Janey. Melissa and John have prayerfully considered every different scenario and have found peace that not doing anything is actually putting it in God's hands. I am so glad that everyone has let Melissa and John find their path to take. They are so confident that they can wake up every morning for the next few months and the next few years on to eternity that they made the right decision. Peace has really come over all of us in this decision, especially Melissa and John. They will need a lot of support through the coming weeks, months, and years. This is something that they will never "get over", but who would want to "get over" a baby named Janey. I want to encourage everyone to ask about Janey and Melissa and John. Janey is a part of our HUGE family now so you can treat her like it :) Thanks to everyone and I might keep posting for a while until Melissa decides to return to it. She reads the comments often so keep 'em coming.

Macon Doctor

Melissa and John went to Macon today to visit with a specialist. They received much of the same information as their regular doctor had told them. Melissa will have to be on Folate for the remainder of her child-bearing years. The doctor spelled out all of the options for Melissa and John and baby Janey. The prognosis is still the same so please remember them in your prayers. John's parents left Memphis at 2 a.m. and were at the doctor before Melissa and John got there. They are traveling back here right now. I talked to Melissa and although she wants to talk to all of you, she is exhausted - emotionally and physically so please- no calls at this time. Thanks for all your prayers and we will update as soon as we know more. - Terri (Melissa's sister)

Janey Hicks

It's me again .... I just wanted everyone to know that Melissa and John picked out a name for the baby. Janey Hicks! - It's kind of a mix between Janice (John's mom) and Cathy (mine and Melissa's mom). It might stay just Janey - she doesn't seem to need a middle name with a first name that cute :) Melissa and John are going to Macon tomorrow. I will update after they get back. John's parents are driving down tomorrow from Memphis so keep them in your prayers. Thanks for all the encouragement - There are so many of you that have been in tough situations and Melissa needs your prayers now. There will probably be time in the future to share your stories with her, but for now, it's enough just to tell her you care. Thanks to everyone for their understanding in this. If you would like to ask me questions or tell your story, feel free to email me. I can relay your stories to Melissa when they become relevant. Thanks again - Terri (Melissa's sister)

Update for now

If you haven't read Lindsey's blog, then let me update you: Melissa and John went to the doctor yesterday for a routine ultrasound and to find out the sex of the baby. The baby is a girl but they found out that she has anencephaly. This is a fatal birth defect that is caused when the neural tube doesn't close over the top of her head. This means that the baby's brain will not develop and she doesn't have a developed skull. From what I've looked up, it is like spina bifida at the other end of the body. Melissa and John are at the beginning of some serious decisions. They are going to Macon on Monday to talk to a specialist - the specialist will shed some light hopefully on what their next steps should/could be. Please pray for them and all of us. Kayden is being a great uplift to all of us. I flew home yesterday and will be here until I feel it's time to go back. comments are appreciated but it seems every time we talk about it or have to explain it to someone, we get bogged down emotionally. Thanks for your prayers.

Blue or Pink

I have been so busy the past few weeks that I haven't really had a chance to sit down and really think about tomorrow. Now that it is so close, I am a bit nervous I have to admit. I am very excited, just can't believe it is already here. I will have to make about 100 phone calls tomorrow, so if I don't get to call you, please don't be offended, this is just the quickest and easiest way to let so many people know. Ok, next time I post, it will be telling you if baby bun is a BOY or GIRL!!!!! I am giddy just writing that...

I need ideas...

Well, Thursday is the big day that we find out if baby bun is a boy or girl! That is considering he/she cooperates.
I need some help with an idea to tell our family after we find out. I may not be able to hold it until they all get home from work, but I was trying to come up with a neat idea. For example, my friend Patience wore a blue shirt to church after she found out it was a boy. I am not creative, so if any of you have an idea, let me hear it...
I will probably do it on the blog too. Only two days, get thinkin'...

Trip to Jacksonville

This post is a little late, but better late than never. OnTuesday, Kayden and I loaded up for Jacksonville to spend the day with our friends, the Easons. We ate lunch together and drove around to see the area where they live now. The kids had a great time playing together and of course Lindsey and I had a great time catching up. It is always so good to see them. Here are a few pictures from our visit. Thanks guys, we had a great time! Can't wait to see you again.

Just a quick post about Adam. I still haven't heard arrangement information, but as soon as I do, I will post it. Please continue to keep this family in your prayers. Also, there were other soldiers killed so keep their family in your prayers also.
I found this link to a picture of Adam over in Iraq. It was taken a year ago, but I thought it was neat to see him.

Easter Pictures

I wanted to post a few pictures of Kayden on Easter before I got too busy. It was really cool here so these were taken in the afternoon. The Easter Bunny came to see her and brought her some goodies in a basket. We ate lunch out and then spent most of the afternoon napping. :) We hunted eggs last weekend, so we didn't do that Sunday.
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Am I cute or what?

Update on Adam : I have actually been in touch with Adam's wife Erin. It has been so good to hear from her. The arrangements for Adam have not been finalized yet, but I will post them when I get more info. Thank you for keeping his family in your prayers.

A Fallen Soldier

With a very heavy heart I post this. I found out last night that one of my friends from high school, Adam McSween, was killed in Iraq this week. He was killed in a road side bomb. I was very shocked last night. I hadn't talked to him in about a year and he told me he was being transferred to WA state and he was going back to Iraq for another tour. Since then we just haven't emailed. A few months ago, after hearing about Micah Gifford, I thought, I need to email Adam and say hi. I didn't. And I could kick myself 100 times for not doing it then. I am not sure of any other details right now. He was such a good and fun guy. He was kind of quiet, but he had his moments.
Please keep his family in your prayers. He is married to Erin with 2 small girls, Gwenyth and Lily (I think that is their names). I can't imagine what she is going through and I just pray that family will surround her soon and help her.

Memories of Adam have consumed my mind since I found out last night. We were a small graduating class and we always had so much fun together. I will post more about him later once I find out more details.

Please pray for his family.

Prenatal Massage

Let me take you back to Dec. first...
My wonderful husband got me a pedicure/foot massage and a 1 hour massage for Christmas. I could also take a friend. I decided to take my Mom and in Jan. we made our appt. to go. Well, then I found out I was pregnant and many places will not do a massage until your 2nd trimester. So, we had our pedicures in Jan. and decided to wait until later for our massages.
After spending those three nights in a hospital recliner a few weeks ago, I decided I needed that massage soon.

Yesterday, my Mom and I went to get our massages. Hers was a regular body massage but mine was a prenatal. They do these very different, obviously. It was WONDERFUL!
I was on my sides at all times but she didn't let up on any pressure. I was in much need of that relaxation. She wasn't able to massage some things as deep, like ankles and wrists, because of those being pressure points, but it still felt so good.

I felt sorry for her having to rub some big pregnant girl, but I didn't care...I needed that massage! I think I could go back every month, if we were millionaires.
Anyone need to relieve some stress and relax...go get a massage. I am going to get a pedicure this week too. I will call this week, Pamper Melissa Week!

A Great Weekend!

We have had a great weekend. I know it is Tuesday, but my sister just left this morning, and I am just now getting a chance to post.
Terri got into town on Thursday morning. We were all so excited to see her. We didn't do much exciting, but we got to hang out and visit a lot which we always have fun doing. I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted to but hopefully I will get some more from Terri this week.
These are a few from the weekend. The first is random, but we have about 20 azalea bushes in our yard and they are all blooming right now and I thought they were really pretty.
Terri and I got to my house on Saturday afternoon and found Kayden and my mom outside playing in the sprinkler. She was soaked. Then once Aunt Terri got involved they had all sorts of fun. Some of my family came over Sat. evening for hamburgers. We usually get together at least once a week to eat or something.
Sunday, our church had an Easter egg hunt for the little ones. There was about 30 kids and it was really fun. The little kids got to hunt first and it was hilarious to watch them walk so calmly to the eggs, while the bigger kids ran like they were going to disappear.
Sunday night after church my family surprised me at my Mom's house for a little birthday get together. We had cookie cake, which I love and it was nice to have everyone together. I was very surprised to say the least. Kayden spent the night with my parents and sister so I was able to get some great, undisturbed sleep. It was GREAT! We will be doing that again shortly. I am so blessed to have so many close family members and friends to help me out. I love them so much.
Monday, we shopped a little and went to lunch. It was a very relaxing day and they we ate at my Mom's for dinner. Terri left this morning to go back to AR. I love it when she is here. I miss her when she is gone, but I am glad she gets to come when she gets a chance. Thanks Aunt Terri for all the goodies too!
I will post more pictures when I get some. Hope everyone has a good week.
I have been instructed to blog more, so I will do my best...
